RESOLVE

A poem by ADAM FAROUK

to whoever you are

we are not afraid of you
why ever it is you do what you do
we do not care
moreover
we do not fear

all these actions do
is strengthen my resolve 
to do my part
to create a world
where this no longer happens
to do so not via force, arms, or suppression
but through love, openness, and connection
a world of cooperation
a world of light

for this is the world that is becoming
you know as well as I do
and perhaps you are scared
and perhaps that is why you do what you do
only you can know
the world you see
born of fear, separation, cowardice, hate
has long been going extinct
you fear the change
i can tell
you want for the old days
where inflicting pain and suffering
were not merely par for the course
they were life “as it should be”
but you and your brethren
can no more stem the tide of the change
from this old world
to the new
than any being, body, or institution
can stop the stars as they spin across the sky
or the thunder of waves up on the ocean

i speak another’s word when i say this
yours is not terror
no
because i am not made afraid
i simply know
yours is a failed brand
and more so
an obsolete one
for some reason, i, now
daring
to speak for all humanity
and mother earth,
say this:
we no longer need your tools
to help us evolve
know this
know that i, that we, do not fear you
that each life you take
in the name of division and destruction
only breeds more courage
more love
more understanding
more compassion
in my heart
in the collective soul
and i will stop at nothing
first, to embody
then to co-create
the new world that is
in the process of becoming
a world of light, a world of understanding
a world of love
we are stronger
we know this now
no longer afraid
because we are many
and, moreover
we are one
